DECENT project

Decentralized Cross-commodity Energy Management

Let’s kick off!

On September 11, 2018 we had a very successful project kickoff at the TUM campus in Garching Hochbrück.

The participants from Technical University of Munich, fortiss GmbH, Framatome GmbH, IBDM GmbH, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd, Empower IM Oy, and Wirepas Oy met for the first time in person. Therefore the meeting started with a short partner presentation.

The meeting started Monday afternoon with an overview on the project goals, objectives, work packages and methodologies by Marc-Oliver Pahl and Markus Taumberger. Afterwards each partner gave a background on the expertise, expectations, and goals in the project.

As social activity we had a great visit at the Leibniz Rechenzentrum der Bayerischen Akademie der Wissenschaften. We closed the successful day in the Augustiner Biergarten in the Munich city center.

On Tuesday our project officer Fabio Lenzner from Projektträger Jülich joined. We started the day with an overview on each partners planned activities in the project. Then we went through all the work packages and discussed who would be the main driving forces in each task.

After a very good lunch Fabio Lenzner gave an overview on relevant points from the German Funding agency, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

Then we started looking at other relevant projects the partners were involved. We closed the meeting with organisational issues regarding the consortium agreement, and planned dissemination activities.

Overall the meeting was very successful, especially as the very positive spirit that accompanied the proposal phase was successfully transferred into the actual project work: all participants enjoyed working together. A wonderful kickoff!

The S2O team works on new ways of taming the complexity of the IoT. The goal is making a joint orchestration as simple as writing a smartphone App. Challenges include security, usability, resilience, scalability, and performance. As second research topic he is doing teaching research focusing on developing new teaching methodologies, eLearning, and learning analytics. For his teaching related activities he received the prestigious Ernst Otto Fischer Award in 2013.
